Lucy Underdown is the first Strongwoman to deadlift 700lbs
Lucy Underdown is one of eight who is representing the UK this month at the M&S Bank Arena as part of The Giants Live World’s Strongest Man Arena tour. The 33-year-old’s team faces off against America in the battle of the nations as the two sides show off their strength as they compete in the likes of weight-lifting, barrel throwing and car carrying.
Lucy, a police officer from Kent, told the ECHO: “This year is the first time the women have really started to come out of their selves and show people within the sport what we can do. It’s always quite difficult and intimidating going into a male-dominated sport - especially in the gym on a Strong Man scene where all the men look big and angry.
Lucy has always been an athlete - having been a discus thrower and shot putter from the age of 11 and making it a national level. As part of her training for this, she began lifting weights and that’s when she noticed strong men training in the same gym as her. Lucy, who has World Strongest Woman coming up in West Virginia, America, currently trains five days a week for three hours at a time. She has a daily calorie intake of 4,500 and this is spread throughout five meals a day: breakfast, a mid-morning snack, lunch, a pre-workout, dinner and sometimes a dessert.
