Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman judgement could mean payout for millions of impacted women - but experts have urged caution

A judgement into a massive compensation battle for women who lost out over changes to the pension age is due tomorrow according to one Westminster report. A huge campaign represented by the Women Against State Pension Inequality Campaign has been battling for justice for up to 3.8 million whose retirement plans were thrown into chaos by the changes.

In Department for Work and Pensions questions this week Tory Anna Firth said she believed the judgement was imminent and said: “Southend’s indomitable pensioners and WASPI women Frances Neil and Deborah Dalton came to see me on Friday on behalf of the 10,000 WASPI women across Southend. However Paul Maynard, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, replied: “As I am sure my hon. Friend is all too aware, I am not able to comment until the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman’s report is published.”

Last week Labour MP Beth Winter said in a Westminster Hall debate: “The Treasury saved over £200 billion through the changes that have been made to women’s state pensions. It is yet another example of horrific injustice, alongside the Post Office scandal, Hillsborough, and the contaminated blood inquiry. Time is of the essence.”
