Kensington Palace would not elaborate further on why he could not attend, but in a rare update on his wife Kate Middleton said she continues to be doing well after having abdominal surgery. The Princess of Wales was admitted to hospital for a planned operation on January 16.
He died at the age of 82 in January last year, decades after being toppled from the throne in a military coup. His eldest son Crown Prince Pavlos will step in to give the reading in William’s place. Prince Andrew led royals into the chapel, including his ex-wife Sarah, Duchess of York, Princess Beatrice, and Zara and Mike Tindall.
