Services were axed after the electricity supply for railways in the capital was knocked out by a power failure.
Rail passengers have been complaining of major disruption this evening after a train fault left them stranded in the capital.
It's understood hundreds of commuters were queuing for buses at Waverley train station late into the night on Thursday. At around 9.45pm, another wrote: "That’s me finally home after my 1639 train to Markinch was cancelled. My daughter had to drive to Edinburgh to get me. Total disaster plan B from #Scotrail as in there wasn’t one."
A third traveller said: "@LNER I'm on the 7pm train from London KGX to EDI. They’ve announced service ends at Newcastle but no bus service - what are the plans for getting travellers to Edinburgh?" Top news stories today Crews are currently investigating the cause of the outage, which is believed to have been caused by a 'Telecomms fault'.
