The house, where the Sons and Lovers writer's family lived from 1905–1911, would have been extended to its side and rear under the plans
Plans to change the Nottinghamshire home where novelist D.H. Lawrence lived for years have been refused. The three-bedroom property in Lynncroft, Eastwood, could have become a six-bedroom HMO but Broxtowe Borough Council's planning committee feared the proposed extension's inhabitants would worsen parking problems nearby.
Councillor Robert Bullock, who represents Eastwood, said: “This is the worst road in Eastwood for parking.“This property is close to a pinch point where vehicles often have to stop and reverse. It would make the situation even worse if there are six extra cars there.” The owner of the house, which was sold at auction for £91,000 in April this year after a bidding war pushed the cost up from the guide price of £65,000, said it was in "severe disrepair" ahead of the planned works. The property is being put on the local interest building list on the recommendation of Historic England due to its connection with the author.
