New rules stipulate that only a third of beaches can be occupied by sunlongers
Mykonos is notorious for flouting beach restrictions, with some bars and resorts renting out sunloungers and cabanas for as much as €100 per day this spring and summer will be greeted by new-look beaches following the introduction of new rules in the country from the beginning of May.
Thought to have been introduced in response to the so-called Greek Beach Towel Movement – better known to locals as The Citizens Movement – launched last summer when inhabitants on half-a-dozen Greek islands protested against the illegal occupation of beaches by bars and resort hotels,Walking Tours, a company that encourages tourists to get off the beaten track on Greece’s over-touristed volcanic island. “Personally I hope more limitations are enforced.
