'When I came to The Prince’s Trust, I was a single mum and wanted a reason to get out of the house and do something for myself'
A group of ten young people from Belfast have won an award after coming together to increase their self-confidence and support a local mental health charity.
The 10 young people took part in Team, a twelve-week personal development programme with The Prince’s Trust, which helps develop confidence and skills. The group came from a variety of backgrounds, and many of them faced challenges with their mental health, low confidence, learning difficulties and had negative experiences with education.
The group organised a sponsored walk in fancy dress to raise funds for and awareness of the charity. Noticing that many they encountered during their walk were unaware of the charity or where to find it, the group decided to use some of the funds they had raised to help raise Imago’s profile by painting a mural on the shutters of Imago’s building, helping to brighten it up and increase its visibility.
Another Team 17 member, Kyla, said: "The programme really helped me come out of my shell and overcome social fears of speaking and meeting new people.
