Feeling better, Astros' Jose Altuve says 'next two weeks are really important' for rehab
Second baseman Jose Altuve tightened his grip on his right hand and moved his fingers around a bit Wednesday in the Astros’ clubhouse to demonstrate his progress in trying to return to action from a broken right thumb.
“Running, ground balls, some workouts in the weight room, and … seeing how I feel with the bat,” an upbeat Altuve said before the Astros hosted the San Francisco Giants in Wednesday afternoon’s series finale at Minute Maid Park. Altuve, who’s yet to play 30 games into the season because of the injury that occurred in the World Baseball Classic in March, said he’s not quite ready for batting practice.“We’re going to swing the right time, even though I’m feeling really good … hopefully soon,” Altuve said.
Astros manager Dusty Baker said there is not yet a specific timetable on Altuve’s return, and the eight-time All-Star concurred. “Right now it’s hard to tell, and anything is possible,” Altuve said. “I’m working really hard. Obviously I want to come back and help these guys win, but we’ll see. The next two weeks are really important in my rehab. … I’m waking up every day and coming here to do everything I can to come back as soon as possible.
