Jones’ role is, in large part, tied to Allen’s health and how much Bickerstaff wants to utilize a two-big frontcourt. Last season, Mobley averaged 34.4 minutes while Allen logged 32.6 a night. If that holds, there won’t be much room for a third non-shooting big, especially with Mobley shifting over to the 5 more frequently and acting as the de facto backup center.
Merrill, who has some stylistic similarities to Strus, would be an option off the bench if there’s a need for more shooting, spacing or off-ball movement.
