The stores will offer shoppers Wilko products after an 'undeniable' public reaction to the collapse of the budget retailer
Five stand-alone concept Wilko stores will open before Christmas this year, after an announcement by retailer The Range. The first two locations will be Plymouth and Exeter, closely followed by two locations in the South-East and one in the North to be announced imminently.
It comes as The Range is opening a new store in Hucknall, with jobs being advertised at the store - amid speculation that it could be at the former Wilko site, in Central Walk. “Our team from Wilko that joined us through the acquisition has shown true resilience, they’ve set to work to integrate the best parts of wilko into The Range’s operational systems. We’re expanding that team every day with new wilko hires and can’t wait to extend that back out to local communities.
It comes after Wilko shut its final shop earlier this month after collapsing into administration. Administrators for PwC sold off a raft of assets, including the Wilko brand and some store properties, as they sought to recover funds to pay off outstanding debts after failing to secure a full rescue deal.
