Scientific evidence on e-cigarettes is starting to mount and the latest study has linked the habit to the serious heart condition.

Vapers are nearly 20 per cent more likely to suffer from heart failure than those who have never touched an electronic cigarette, a new study claims. This research adds to the growing concerns about the harmful health effects of vaping and suggests e-cigarettes may not be as safe as they are often made out to be.

Scientists studied 175,667 US adults, with an average age of 52, for about four years. They found those who had used e-cigarettes at any point were 19 per cent more likely to develop heart failure than those who had never vaped. He added the new findings show a need for more research, especially given how popular vaping is among young people. Surveys show about five to ten percent of US teens and just over ten per cent of UK teens use vapes.

The American College of Cardiology used a larger sample size and took into account a range of demographic, socioeconomic, and lifestyle risk factors making it one of the most thorough studies on this topic so far.
