Travis County is suing the Texas Attorney General and Secretary of State on allegations they are violating the National Voter Registration Act. The lawsuit was
filed Tuesday and adds fuel to the fire in the ongoing legal battle over voter registration efforts.
On Tuesday, Travis County leaders defended their right to hire the single bidder, Civic Government Solutions , to mail voter registration forms to eligible but unregistered voters. The Attorney General says the process invites voter fraud, but Travis County Judge Andy Brown disagrees, saying no laws or procedures were violated.
To register to vote in Texas eligible residents must fill out a one-page form that asks 10 questions including name, address, date of birth, and Texas driver’s license number. Travis County leaders say the pen-and-paper process is antiquated.
