While some hurricanes will affect the forecasts in Cleveland, Hurricane Idalia will largely leave Northeast Ohio alone.
Category 3 Hurricane Idalia made landfall Wednesday morning in Florida's Big Bend region. It could also still be a hurricane while it crosses over Georgia later today.CLEVELAND, Ohio - While Cleveland is experiencing some chilly and rainy late summer weather, it is not because of Hurricane Idalia, which reached landfall in Florida shortly after dawn Wednesday.
Hurricane Idalia - unlike some previous hurricanes that later turned into storms in Ohio - is projected to track along the coasts of Georgia and South Carolina through Wednesday and into Thursday. Into the weekend, it is expected to move slowly toward Bermuda. “The dry weather is because of the area of high pressure that is also blocking the hurricane from turning up into our area,” says Sullivan. “There’s just going to be a big area of high pressure over most of the eastern United States through early next week. The Category 3 storm unleashed devastation
More than 263,000 customers were without electricity as rushing water covered streets near the coast. As the eye moved inland, destructive winds shredded signs, sent sheet metal flying and snapped tall trees. Downed power lines closed northbound Interstate 75 just south of Valdosta, Georgia, according to the Associated Press.
