A.J. Rocco’s new space is coming along, with owner A. Brendan Walter eyeing a target opening toward the end of 2023.
CLEVELAND, Ohio – A.J. Rocco’s, which has been closed since 2019 in the Gateway District, is looking to open this year as a bar-restaurant with a full kitchen, event space and a possible Airbnb rental.
The building formerly held Alesci’s and then Huron Point Tavern. In fact, a lone Jameson bottle gathers dust along a shelf as construction workers create the new space. Walter and others had toasted Jeff Burson, the Huron Point Tavern owner, after his untimely death in 2018.In fact, “Great American Savings Bank” is etched on the foyer floor, and it will stay, he said. Originally the German-American Savings Bank, it was established in 1887 and located on Ontario Street.
The third floor will be a rental Airbnb that includes a patio with a southern vantage of seats in Progressive Field. The rooftop deck might be rented for folks wanting to watch fireworks from the ballpark, Walter said. Marketing to out-of-town fans would be a convenience for those who would want to stay within walking distance of the ballpark. It can accommodate a king bed in one room, a Murphy bed in another, and has study, kitchen, living and dining areas. New windows are being installed.
