Take a stroll in the grounds of a historic house which springs to life at this time of year
Blossom is starting to bloom, Easter is just around the corner and the weather’s getting better - it finally feels like spring is here. One way to make the most of this beautiful season, and admire all the colourful flowers that sprout up from the earth is by venturing out on a good walk.
The Tudor and Jacobean house itself is an architectural gem with eye-catching timber framing, but it's the Victorian and Edwardian gardens which steal the show in the spring. The first flowers to emerge are daffodils, which spring up all across the garden.As well as daffodils, purple crocuses start to emerge at this time of year. Dozens of the tiny flowers can be seen among the towering beech trees found in the Beech Walk Paddock, next to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.
In previous years visitors have been amazed by the bluebell displays at Rufford Old Hall. Taking to Tripadvisor, one visitor wrote: “The grounds were great to walk round and beautifully maintained. The woodland walk was nice, being very late April we were able to gaze upon a sea of bluebells and followed the path up to the Leeds Liverpool canal.”
