U.S. Army Air Forces Staff Sgt. Edward K. Pyle was killed while serving in WWII and will finally be laid to his final resting place July 24 at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan.
ALLIANCE, Ohio - The remains of a World War II soldier from Ohio will be interred in Michigan after being identified.
At 31 years old, Pyle was missing in action, but in 1947 the American Grave Registration Service recovered the remains of what they believed to be the individuals involved in a B-24 Liberator crash, however the remains could not be identified at the time. According to the release, this location is also known as the Punchbowl for laboratory analysis and identification.
Pyle’s named is alongside other missing soldier from WWII on the Walls of the Missing at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial and the American Battle Monuments Commission site in the Philippines.
