“Football shirts play a really important role for fans'
A business venture which began as a pipe dream between two University of Manchester students has now opened the doors to a huge two-storey shop which boasts the world’s largest football shirt collection.
For the last five years, Classic Football Shirts had a base at Manchester’s Barton Arcade but the business has since outgrown the venue. On Friday morning , Classic Football Shirts relocated and reopened a new store on Dale Street in the Northern Quarter. “We started the business in Withington, so Manchester for us, really, is where the whole journey began,” Gary tells the M.E.N. “It’s got Manchester in its DNA and it's a proud moment to be here opening this store."
“I remember walking past this building when it was an absolute shell of itself, so it’s crazy to see how far everything has come since then. We’re privileged to be here in such an instantly recognisable building that has been referenced already as a place that has been authentically restored.” “The really amazing thing about a space like this is that it brings people together who are coming at it from different angles but have a common interest. When we first started, we felt it was quite niche - it was never the intention for it to be such a big community-driven back then but we’ve realised over the years just how big the community is.”
