Christmas songs and adverts also make the list
Putting up the tree and decorations and seeing Christmas ads on the TV top the list of what make people feel festive, according to research for Tesco. Hearing Christmas songs in the shops and seeing the first decorations and lights go up in the neighbourhood also signal the start of the season for many.
And whilst the data revealed that almost a quarter of UK adults are looking forward to Christmas more than usual this year, 12% said they were not. So ahead of its Christmas ad launching this week, Tesco helped get people in the festive spirit by sending 6ft Christmas tree people onto the streets in a bid to bring some sparkle and magic to commuters’ and shoppers’ day.
According to the data, nearly a third of the nation finds the countdown to Christmas more exciting than Christmas Day itself, and just over a tenth of 25–34-year-olds even started to ‘deck the halls’ as early as October, with a further 11% of 35-44-year-olds planning to do so this month. Emma Botton, Group Customer Director said: “Ahead of our Christmas ad airing, we wanted to help spread a little festive spirit across the city with the help of our jolly Christmas tree people, surprising and delighting commuters.
“Tesco is sure to be on hand to help everyone feel Christmassy this year, whether that’s putting the tree up early or picking up mince pies in the weekly shop. As the big day approaches, we’ll be providing customers with great quality and value at the heart of it all.”
