The nascent golf competition, organized by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, will air on ESPN in primetime starting in January.
The day has arrived that few ever expected to see: A shot clock in golf. Well, kind of. TGL, the new primetime indoor golf league led by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, announced Monday that players will have a 40-second shot clock, and if the player fails to hit the ball in time their team will be docked a one-stroke penalty.
Each team gets four timeouts per match with two per session, with no carryover from unused timeouts. There will also be a referee and a “booth official” that acts almost like a tournament rules official. The shot clock resets whenever a player completes their shot, a team calls a timeout, there’s a shot clock violation or other rule issue. Teams cannot call multiple timeouts consecutively on the same shot.
