Texas has continually put itself in third-and-long situations over its past three games....
Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers has been facing too many difficult to convert third-down situations in recent games, especially against TCU.AUSTIN — Over its past three games, Texas’ defense has spent about 25 more minutes on the field than its offense.
The real crux of the problem is Texas’ longstanding issues on third down. That’s been a common refrain for second-year coach Steve Sarkisian this year. Over its past three games, Texas has faced third-and-long 42.2 percent of the time. It has converted just 2-of-19 times in those situations, including an 0-for-9 showing against the Horned Frogs.
“What’s helpful on third down is when you play third-and-5, third-and-4, third-and-3 football, that’s when those crossing routes, those things you can apply them more,” Sarkisian said following the loss to TCU. Kansas cooled off with senior Jason Bean at quarterback, losing three of his four starts. While Bean has posted solid numbers, coach Lance Leipold’s team is more of a threat with Daniels running the show.
