A research study reveals that tech-reliant renters prioritize setting up their Wi-Fi over arranging utilities or unpacking when moving into a new home. Internet connection is so important for a quarter of renters that they sort it out on the day they move in. Other priorities include registering with a GP, updating addresses, and cleaning the new home. However, these tasks are also disliked by renters. The study also found that 84% of renters would like to have a smart meter installed to monitor their energy usage, but 46% mistakenly believe they need their landlord's permission.

Tech-reliant renters are more concerned with getting their Wi-Fi sorted out than arranging their utilities – or unpacking – when moving into a new home, research has revealed.

As a result, 84 per cent would like to have a smart meter installed to stay on top of their energy usage and readings – but 46 per cent believed they need a landlord’s permission, which is incorrect. She said: “Like a lot of millennials, I had some pretty interesting experiences of renting during my teens and twenties – whether it was living in a utility room when I first moved to London, or moving house almost every year.

It also emerged 87 per cent are keen to get to know their local area once they move in – by finding the nicest parks for a walk, and sampling the best places to eat. The research, carried out via OnePoll, revealed 84 per cent would only speak to their landlord when it’s absolutely necessary – averaging fewer than four conversations with the homeowner.
