A 16-year-old girl in Iran dies after an incident with the morality police. She suffered brain damage and spent a month in a coma. The incident sparked outrage and calls for justice.

Her death follows an incident on the Tehran metro on 1 October – when she was confronted by the morality police while not wearing a hijab

The IRNA report read: “Unfortunately, the brain damage to the victim caused her to spend some time in a coma and she died a few minutes ago. Soundless CCTV footage released by Iranian authorities showed Ms Geravand, with her hair uncovered, boarding a train at Tehran’s Shohada station with two other girls.

Geravand’s parents appeared in the state media footage saying a blood pressure issue, a fall or perhaps both contributed to their daughter’s injury.
