Breaking news: Police say they have apprehended the alleged gunman of a shooting at an Atlanta hospital that killed one person and injured four others, all women between the ages of 25 and 71, in the latest shooting to disrupt every day life in America.
At around 12:08 p.m., Deion Patterson, 24, allegedly shot at least five people, all women between the ages of 25 and 71, in an 11th floor waiting room at the Northside Hospital Midtown medical office, according to Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum. A 39-year-old woman was killed and pronounced dead at the scene.
Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens warned the public that the shooter is "armed and dangerous." The May 3 shooting in Atlanta left one dead and four injured. Three of the victims in the Atlanta shooting remain in critical condition after undergoing medical procedures, a Grady Health System spokesperson told The Washington Post. The fourth patient is in stable condition. Police did not disclose if the victims were patients, employees or a mix.
Minyone Patterson, the suspect’s mother, was uninjured and is currently cooperating with police, authorities said. The mother, who did not immediately respond to a request for comment, told thethat her son was upset because Veterans Affairs “gave him some messed up medication.” She added that her son was hoping to be given Ativan, a benzodiazepine prescribed to relieve anxiety and alleviate insomnia. It can also help treat seizure disorders, such as epilepsy.
