UPDATE: Police have identified the suspect as 24-year-old Deion Patterson. Reached by phone, Patteron’s mother told The Daily Beast, “The damn VA gave him some messed up medication. And all he wanted was an Ativan.”
Atlanta police were hunting for an armed suspect Wednesday after one person was killed and at least five injured in an active shooting at a hospital in the city’s Midtown neighborhood.
Reached by phone shortly after Patterson’s name was released by the Atlanta PD, the mom, Minyone Patterson, told The Daily Beast, “The damn VA gave him some messed up medication. And all he wanted was an Ativan.”The shooting unfolded at Northside Hospital around lunchtime on Wednesday. Of the four adult victims transported to hospital, three were in critical condition, Grady Health System’s chief medical officer Dr. Robert Janson said. The fifth victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Shortly after the shooting, Atlanta police dispatchers directed officers to an address in the area, where someone in a neighboring building posted a video of a man in a gray hoodie lurking atop the roof. HoweverFOX5 reported that the suspect may have carjacked a white Toyota Tacoma at some point before dumping it about 12 miles away in the city of Smyrna. He fled on foot and was in the vicinity of Campbell Middle School, the network reported.
