Police Scotland has confirmed that the body of a 57-year-old woman has been recovered from a river
Storm Babet has seen its first death after the body of a woman has been recovered from a river, Police Scotland has confirmed. The area where the 57-year-old was recovered is located where a red weather alert is in place
Scotland could be hit with its heaviest rainfall in history as Storm Babet has battered areas across the UK. Heavy rain and high winds are pounding parts of Britain with multiple weather warnings and flood alerts in place, the Mirror reports. Tom Morgan, a meterologist for the Met Office, told The Mirror this afternoon how a bloc of warm air from Scandanavia, combined with the natural mountainous georgaphy of the region, both contributed to worsening conditions. He said: "We've had this weather front moving north over the UK over the last 24 hours and it's stalling over central and eastern Scotland.
Whilst the worst of the weather is focused on Scotland, an amber warning is in place for northern England from tomorrow until Saturday morning. But back across the border, a number of towns have already broken record rainfall totals for the month so far.
