The original script for Star Wars Episode IX had the perfect lightsaber design for Rey that was ultimately scrapped (but there's still hope).
Although Star Wars dropped the coolest version of Rey's lightsaber from the original script for The Rise of Skywalker, there's a chance it could still return. The majority of the sequel trilogy features Daisy Ridley's Rey wielding the blue-bladed Skywalker saber that once belonged to Luke and his father Anakin before him. However, Rey's decision to become a Skywalker coincided with a brand-new yellow-bladed lightsaber, constructed from her staff when she was a scavenger on Jakku.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Initially, Rise of Skywalker would have been titled Duel of the Fates with a script from Derek Connolly and director Colin Trevorrow. This was before Lucasfilm's decision to bring back The Force Awakens' director J.J Abrams with a brand-new script.
This original story would have given Rey more time to train as a Jedi while also allowing her to construct her own lightsaber before the events of the final episode, rather than building it after all the action had concluded as seen in The Rise of Skywalker. Likewise, having a double-bladed lightsaber makes far more sense for Rey considering her past skills with her staff.
Rey's New Jedi Order Movie Should Feature A Double-Bladed Lightsaber The exciting thing is that Rey Skywalker could still have a canonical double-bladed lightsaber in Star Wars' future. A new movie has been confirmed by Lucasfilm where Rey restarts the Jedi Order, so there's an opportunity to reveal that she's modified her lightsaber in the years following Rise of Skywalker, now with a second emitter for two blades.
