Natalie Mottram was suspected of being the leak and walked right into the National Crime Agency's trap
A corrupt police intelligence analyst tipped off her criminal friend that the authorities had access to EncroChat messages after the service was hacked.
Kay passed on the information regarding the hack to a friend who was an EncroChat user. This unnamed friend of Kay's then messaged another EncroChat user to relay the news on April 24 2020. The messages raised the alarm and by June 12, 2020, NCA investigators suspected Mottram was responsible for the leak. On that day, her bosses asked her to analyse an intelligence log referring to Kay, who was the partner of Mottram’s close friend. But the log was bogus and Mottram was under surveillance.
