Specialist officers raided Daniel Rushworth's home and discovered a hidden compartment behind a mirror containing cocaine, £100,000 cash, jewellery, and golf clubs.
An EncroChat dealer was snared after cops discovered a secret hideout in his home. Daniel Rushworth stored dirty cash and a stockpile of drugs behind a mirror.
Within the secret slot, police found £100,000, half a kg of cocaine, a money counter, a vacuum sealer, and other items including jewellery and golf clubs. A police probe into his EncroChat activity discovered that Rushford communicated with 21 other operators about the sale of 178kg of cannabis, worth £2.8million, between November 2019 and May 2020.
The handgun did not exchange hands but the Crown's charge of conspiracy to sell/transfer a prohibited weapon was related to the messages between the pair. Frank Dillon, representing Barton, said his client had never had possession of the firearm but had made a "foolish decision to mention it". Top UK & World stories today Trevor Parry-Jones, representing Rushworth, said his client was pulled into the criminal lifestyle due to a gambling habit. He said: "Once one owes money, it gathers momentum".
