An outbreak of severe storms this week could produce damaging winds, large hail and tornadoes from the Plains into the South, including some of the same areas impacted a week ago. Forecast:
The storm system that will spawn the severe weather is spreading into California right now.
Severe storms are most probable from northern and central Texas into Oklahoma, eastern Kansas, western Missouri, western Arkansas and possibly into Iowa. Those storms could pack damaging winds, large hail and an isolated tornado threat.Localized flash flooding from heavy rain cannot be ruled out in many of those same areas.Soaking rain and thunderstorms will spread farther east across the Midwest and South by the middle of the week.
A squall line of strong to severe storms is likely to be ongoing in the morning on the western edge of the severe threat area depicted below. That line of storms will pack a severe weather threat as it advances eastward through the day. There might also be some isolated supercells that develop ahead of this line that could produce severe weather, but that part of the forecast is still uncertain.
