Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath passes the microphone to Jane Foley, who directs the Milken Educator Awards, at an assembly Friday at BASIS San Antonio Primary Medical Center Campus to honor award recipient Diana Lopez-Cashen, a third-grade teacher there. A San Antonio teacher was surprised Friday with a school assembly in her honor — and a Milken Educator Award, which comes with an unrestricted $25,000 prize.
Described by her peers as an innovative and creative educator, Lopez-Cashen “inspires her students to achieve greatness, instilling a strong work ethic, holding them to the highest expectations and never letting them settle for mediocrity,” a Milken announcement states.third-grade English Language Arts team and has developed a curriculum now in use at 30 other BASIS campuses.
