Greg McElroy, an ESPN analyst and former Tide quarterback, has been critical of Alabama's performance this week. “This is the first time I have legitimate concerns,” McElroy said Monday on WJOX.

Alabama coach Nick Saban responded Wednesday to concerns raised this week by former Tide quarterback Greg McElroy about the direction of the Tide’s program.

Continued McElroy: “I have seen them lose when people have said, ‘The dynasty is over.’ I have seen people back in 2014 say this team will never regain its prowess or its strength. I have seen coach after coach after coach depart for what they might consider to be greener pastures. I’ve seen everything that this program has endured in the last several years, and I have never been concerned about whether or not they’ve been better tomorrow than they were today.

McElroy, who played for Alabama from 2006-10, noted on his podcast that he was around for Saban’s hire in 2007 and witnessed first-hand the culture change that helped lead to six national championships. McElroy acknowledged the program’s strengths have been at quarterback and wide receiver in recent seasons, but believes this season’s wide receivers are a “remarkably disappointing group.” He also evaluated the defense as not being as strong personnel-wise as past years and too complicated.
