Residents and businesses in a rural Stirling community who were left without broadband for more than three weeks say that more must be done to reconnect stranded remote villages.

Those living and working in Stronachlachar saw their internet services cut off following Storm Babet last month.

The broadband service ceased on October 19 and yesterday , as the Observer went to print, the community was not yet connected as engineers were finally able to begin repairs.Businesses and residents reliant on Broadway Partners’ broadband said they had been “left stranded”. A spokesperson for Broadway Partners this week told the Observer yesterday : “Adverse weather conditions caused severe damage to some of our equipment which needs to be repaired.

“We’re extremely sorry for any inconvenience caused, and we’ve automatically applied one month of credit to the accounts of all affected customers.”The Pier Cafe, in Stronachlachar, was one of the businesses cut off. “It has been an inconvenience to us, but I know that those living in the community have seen a bigger impact as it’s a small, tight-knit community and they rely on the WhatsApp group chat to ask for help with things like picking up prescriptions or some shopping.”

“The key issue was damage to the Ben A’an mast which serves the area and the lethargy within Broadway to action repairs.
