Miltonrigg Woods is an extraordinary and atmospheric place. An outstanding feature in the Cumbrian landscape, this ancient woodland displays vibrant flowers and magnificent veteran trees, as well as wetland areas and a pond.
Miltonrigg lies to the east of Carlisle near the town of Brampton, just off the A69. It sits in a rural landscape surrounded by the stunning Cumbrian countryside, with the south-east corner of the site, known as Folly Wood, separated from the main body of the wood by a railway line.If you've not guessed, our walk of the week is Miltonrigg Wood. This is a shady walk along flat paths made of crushed quarry stone. OS’s new ‘Pathfinder Lake District and Cumbria gave us the idea for the walk.
Once you've finished this walk you can head into the market town of Brampton and relax in a family-run pub. The pub’s well-stocked bar is home to a vast choice of gins, as well as a selection of wines and other spirits. And of course, there’s some 5* Cask Marque real ales on tap too.
