Rossendale housing associations talk damp, mould and condensation policies following avoidable death of Awaab Ishak
Housing associations in Rossendale have spoken about their arrangements to tackle damp, mould and condensation.
In Rossendale, councillors have been told housing association gas and electric workers are now trained to have a general look around a home for mould or damp during a visit. Leaflets, conversations with tenants and social media are also being used to highlight damp prevention. Regarding data about the condition of homes, she said data existed for 98 per cent of all Together Housing homes and 93 per cent in Rossendale. The aim was to reach 100 per cent next year. Data about the state of buildings was validated externally by the Savills property firm. There were also checks by a regulator organisation.
In other matters, there were 28 current housing disrepair or fitness standard-related claims in Rossendale. There had been 34 in the past three years. Six were resolved and none had gone to the ombudsman. Ms Stuttard added: “We had a lot of legacy claims in the system from the covid pandemic era. We’re chasing these up with solicitors. Often customers have moved-on but the claim is still listed as ‘live’.
