Bolivar Peninsula lighthouse's crown comes down as restoration work begins on 150-year-old landmark
. The list is meant to draw attention to historical buildings in the Galveston area that are decaying and in critical need of repair.

The lighthouse was built in 1872 and retired in 1933.About half the estimated restoration cost comes from removing the cupola, light room and gallery, and fabricating their replacements, according to the historical foundation.
The Port Bolivar lighthouse was built by the federal government in 1872. It was the second lighthouse to mark the entrance to Galveston Bay. The first, built on the opposite side of the ship channel on the east end of Galveston Island, was destroyed by the Confederate Army in 1855, according to the Texas State Historical Association.This is a carousel.
