A scrapped Star Wars plot point from the original plan for Episode IX could be brought back for Rey Skywalker's new Jedi Order movie. When production on the sequel trilogy began, the three films were set to be written and directed by J.J. Abrams, Rian Johnson, and Colin Trevorrow respectively.
The Rise of Skywalker also used some of these ideas, by having Rey be a Palpatine. The film ends with her taking the name Skywalker, meaning she is split between the light and dark sides of the Force inherently. In Duel of the Fates though, Trevorrow would have taken this one step further and had Rey teach young Force-sensitive children that a balance between light and dark is good for the galaxy.
Rey’s Grey Jedi Order Fits The Skywalker Saga’s Themes Rey building this grey Jedi Order would also fit the overall themes of the Skywalker Saga. As mentioned, Luke's arc in the sequel trilogy was about realizing that the Force does not only belong to the Jedi. Through this, Luke came to terms with the failures of the Jedi of the past, and how completely ignoring any possibility of the dark side rising led to their downfall.
If Rey was shown to realize this in her new Jedi Order movie, a group of grey Jedi would perfectly fit the overarching story of Star Wars. Some of Star Wars' most compelling characters have taken issues with the Jedi's dogmatic past and embraced things the Jedi would not have allowed in the name of fighting for what is right. Rey could be the next of these characters, teaching her Jedi students that embracing the dark and the light in the name of peace is not a bad thing.
