The Light Blues are set to snap up the out of contract midfielder but training compensation is due to the Dons.
The Light Blues have agreed terms with the Scotland Under-21 international. They now plan to register him on freedom of contract, subject to a medical. There is no agreement in place between the two teams, however. Rangers can either try to strike a deal with Aberdeen or take their chances at a tribunal. Aberdeen would have been entitled to more than £500,000 in training compensation if he had left Scotland because he came through their ranks.
The Dons also made a top offer to Barron, which was turned down, to renew his Pittodrie deal. Barron had offers in Italy and England but he now looks set to stay in Scotland with Rangers. The 21-year-old was close to making Steve Clarke’s Euro 2024 squad. He will be looking to kick on but to do that he will need to make himself a regular in Philippe Clement’s side rather than simply being a squad player.
Rangers have already signed Jefte, Clinton Nsialam and Oscar Cortes’ loan has been extended with an option to buy. The Ibrox side are also pushing to seal a deal to sign Scotland squad keeper Liam Kelly.
