Out of contract Aberdeen star Connor Barron is reportedly on the brink of signing for Rangers despite interest from across Europe.
Record Sport revealed last week that the Light Blues ramped up their bid to sign Barron on freedom of contract - with the Dons later confirmed that the 21-year-old would be leaving Pittodrie at the end of his contract. Rangers made an improved offer with the likes of Bologna, Hellas Verona, Plymouth, Stoke, Cardiff and Swansea all chasing a deal - and it now appears that Barron is on his way to Aberdeen's Scottish Premiership rivals this summer.
The Rangers Review state that the Ibrox side are "poised" to complete the signing after "winning the race" for the free agent this summer with Philippe Clement "eager" to include the midfielder in his revamp of the squad. It is claimed that Rangers have "seen off" the competition from England and Italy with Clement set to make his fourth signing of the summer.
A deal is likely to get over the line before the Rangers return to pre-season training on Monday. The Dons would be due have been due around £525,000 in training compensation if he was to move outside Scotland - but a switch to the Light Blues means the club Scottish sides will have to agree compensation or face a tribunal stepping in to determine a fee.
Barron appears unlikely to be the last new faces in the door. Liam Kelly is expected to arrive at Ibrox following the conclusion if Euro 2024 while talks over Bayern Munich forward Yusuf Kadabayi rumble on.
