Every police officer in the country will be checked against national policing databases to root out anyone who has “slipped through the net” in the wake of theIn a statement, the Home Secretary said Carrick’s “sickening crimes” were a “stain on the police” and that he should “never have been allowed to remain as an officer for so long”.
“Every day thousands of decent, hardworking police officers perform their duties with the utmost professionalism and I am sure they all share my disgust at his despicable betrayal of everything they stand for.” Mr Hewitt said the NPCC was “working through the detail of how this can best be achieved across policing”.after she said responsibility for strengthening police vetting procedures lay with the Metropolitan Police.
