Suella Braverman has called for an overhaul of police vetting procedures as she warned of “more shocking cases” of sexual assault by officers in the wake of revelations about David Carrick
It emerged yesterday that the Met failed to sack Carrick, an armed officer with the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command, despite him being brought to the force’s attention nine times over the course of a decade.
He also whipped one woman with a belt, urinated on some of his victims, told them when they could eat and sleep, and forced them to clean his house naked. James Daly, the Conservative MP for Bury North, said the Met commissioner’s statement of apology regarding Carrick contained “no accountability”.
