When Rory Harty's parents noticed they could no longer fasten his nappies, they assumed he just needed a larger size. However, when the two year old developed a persistent cough and became sniffly, they decided to take him to a GP. The doctor suspected that the little one was suffering from bronchitis, an inflammation of the airways which usually resolves on its own. A few days later, Rory's parents, Rachael and Andrew, became concerned as they noticed Rory had a swollen belly and seemed extremely tired, reports the Manchester Evening News. Rachael, 33, decided to take her son to A&E, thinking Rory might have a chest infection and they would be sent home with antibiotics. However, a receptionist, alarmed by how ill Rory looked, alerted a doctor to his worsening condition and the family were quickly taken to an adult resuscitation area.
