‘Oppenheimer’ in IMAX 70mm gets extended run at Dallas cinema
. “The headline, for me, is by shooting on IMAX 70 mm film, you’re really letting the screen disappear. You’re getting a feeling of 3D without the glasses. You’ve got a huge screen and you’re filling the peripheral vision of the audience. You’re immersing them in the world of the film.”
At a recent 70 mm screening in Dallas, the 1.43:1 aspect ratio made the close-ups feel focused and intimate, putting the viewer in contact with the characters. The film from the movie’s final version is over 11 miles long and weighs 600 pounds, the AP reported. Most theaters don’t have the screens or projectors to show the film as Nolan intended, so it’s been edited to fit more common formats. Even so, Nolan has said that 70 mm IMAX presentations are the best way to watch his new movie. The problem is there are only 30 such screens in the world, according to the AP.“IMAX 70 mm film lasts, on average, 10 times longer than regular 70 mm or 35 mm film,”
