Licence granted in face of opposition from residents
A Middle East-based entrepreneur has been granted a licence to open a ‘micro-Irish pub’ in a former Greggs bakery shop in his home village of Sale Moor. Ross Matthews-Smith, 37, was given the go-ahead to open his Fibber Magee’s pub on Northenden Road, by Trafford’s licensing sub-committee last night .

There will be no TVs. It’s a traditional old school Irish pub.”
He also voiced fears of antisocial behaviour and an increase in litter. Another resident Sue Burden, who lives 250 yards away, said there would be a danger of passive smoking for people walking past the pub because of the narrow pavement.
