The criminals tried to flee after the collision
Three defendants laughed together in court after CCTV was shown of their van ramming into an electrician after stealing his tools. At Derby Crown Court, the trio sniggered, smiled and yawned throughout proceedings as they leaned their fate.
Officers were able to track down each defendant thanks to CCTV and DNA found in the van. Gallon, who was on licence for a previous prison sentence for a ram-raid burglary at the time of these incidents, was arrested on August 29, 2020, with Jordan and Jason Peacock arrested on October 14, 2020, and October 21, 2020, respectively.
"You drove straight at him. You rammed him and the gate with your vehicle. You accept by your plea that you intended to cause him really serious bodily injury. He is, frankly, lucky you did not kill him." Gallon then crossed a canal and hid in bushes until he was arrested by police at around 5.10am. The cash till draw, which itself was worth around £80, was found to contain just 50p, all of which was in copper coins. He later pleaded guilty to one count of burglary on November 1, this year.
"He had a rough upbringing, no father, and he has five children aged from eight years to nine months old. He has been off sick for depression and anxiety, and he hopes to seek further help in custody. There is remorse.
