Denton Ryan five-star linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. committed to Texas Thursday evening.
Texas A&M’s season of misery ended on a high note Nov. 26 with a 38-23 upset of sixth-ranked LSU at Kyle Field. Turned out, the Aggies still had at one more cruel blow to endure at the hands of a former football rival.
Former Aggie pledge Anthony Hill Jr., the nation’s No. 1 linebacker and state’s No. 4 overall prospect, committed to Texas Thursday night. Hill sent a “committed” graphic out acrossThe five-star Denton Ryan All-American committed to play for coach Jimbo Fisher's program back in July but reopened his recruitment Nov. 7 after the Aggies lost their fifth straight game to drop to 3-6 on the season.
Second-year Texas coach Steve Sarkisian reportedly visited Hill’s home earlier Thursday, per 247Sports. And with the early signing period set to open Wednesday, Dec. 21, Sarkisian was able to add even more firepower to a recruiting class that’s now No. 3 in the 247Sports composite rankings. The 6-foot-2, 225-pound linebacker joins a class that also features New Orleans Isidore Newman five-star quarterback Arch Manning , Orlando Edgewater five-star halfback Cedric Baxter Jr. and DeSoto five-star wideout Johntay Cook II. Hill also becomes the third linebacker pledged to Texas' 2023 class, joining North Crowley's S'Maje Burrell and Kahuku's Liona Lefau.
Over his sophomore and junior seasons Hill totaled 236 tackles, 29 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, four forced fumbles and two interceptions. Hill played in only six games this season due to injury but remained productive with 67 tackles,four tackles for loss, five forced fumbles and two sacks.
