Saffron Cordery, interim chief executive of NHS Providers, warned the health service would probably be hit harder by Wednesday’s strike than one held in December as more staff, including call handlers, took action.Although it was “too early to say” what the impact would be, Ms Cordery said: “. We know there will be disruption but the scale of it is hard to see at the moment.
“While the NHS can step forward and manage through a time of intense pressure, such as industrial action… doing that on an ongoing basis is going to seriously deplete their capacity to carry out services on a routine basis.” The NHS waiting list for routine treatment in England is now more than 7.2 million, with the Prime Minister pledging to reduce the figure.
