Four residents were displaced and a neighbor who tried to help fight a single-alarm house fire was hospitalized Friday, authorities said.
Around 9:15 a.m., firefighters responded to reports of a working fire in the rear of a home in the 2000 block of 36th Avenue in the city’s Harrington neighborhood, Oakland Fire Department spokesman Michael Hunt said.
About twenty firefighters arrived to find a two-story home with a ground-level main floor and a basement in its rear where the fire apparently started before spreading through walls up to the attic.Red Cross Bay Area staff responded to provide help to four people displaced by the fire. The neighbor who tried to help fight the fire was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and was later taken to a hospital.
