Franklin County’s declaration of racism as a public health crisis is particularly well-formed and powerful because of this solid grounding in the public, not-for-profit, and private sectors, informed by personal and communal history of grappling with the challenges of structural racism.Building on a strong foundation of individual and institutional awareness and will to change, Covid-19 added a layer of urgency that led to Franklin County’s Declaration of Racism as a Public Health Crisis.
Franklin County developed the Rise Together Blueprint to address poverty and its disproportionate impact on black residents. An inclusive Steering Committee is now in place as well, to turn that thorough report into a workplan with measurable outcomes.
