A total of six arrests were made on Bonfire Night across Merseyside
More than 110 illegal bonfire sites were shut down by Liverpool Council in a two week period as emergency services reported a decrease in anti-social behaviour over Bonfire Night.
Merseyside Police reported a decrease in the number of incidents of anti-social behaviour for the third year in a row while Liverpool Council said its teams were required to clear more than 100 tonnes of waste as part of the wide-ranging operation.READ MORE: Ashley Dale murder trial as it happens Despite efforts to remove a demonstration in West Derby, a fire was set on Melwood Drive last night. In a post on social media, the council said: “A big thank you to all the crews who helped clear away more than 100 tonnes of waste, in all weathers, from more than 110 illegal bonfire sites across the city these past two weeks as part of OperationBanger.Merseyside Police confirmed it ran a high-visibility presence in the region with dispersal zones and stop searches carried out when necessary.
