Motorists in Northern Ireland currently face an average wait of 72 days for an MOT test
It comes ahead of a Stormont debate on Monday, March 11, focused on waiting times for MOT tests, with increased calls for Northern Ireland to adopt a similar model to MOT tests in Great Britain, where testing takes place at authorised garages.
Despite facing increased calls to review the MOT system here by adopting a similar system as in Great Britain, Infrastructure Minister John O'Dowd said this is "a call for privatisation" which he has "emphatically ruled out." Among concerns raised regarding the Great Britain model, Minister O'Dowd said price and MOT fraud are issues.
